If kindness is sown,
then kindness you will receive.
Our name, Aroha, in Māori means “to love, to feel compassion, and to empathise.”
Aroha Tours is owned and operated by locals husband and wife, Darren and Jane. We offer tours that showcase Island hospitality in a family friendly way.
Darren is a Māori Artist, and has worked in the Taxi industry for 5 years on the Island. He understands the joy and positive energy visitors bring to the Island. Darren is passionate about sharing his Māori and English colonial heritage. “I am Maori, I am Kiwi, I know who I am on both sides. We’re upholding memories. When it comes to our tours, I will tell the stories of our ancestors and I will have that energy, that wairua (spirit)”.
Jane is an early child teacher of 25yrs. She values the Māori concept of whanaungatanga. "I want our visitors to feel a sense of connectedness when they experience Aroha Tours". She will also be your first contact when making your bookings or enquiries. She can tell you about our fun, informative, culturally rich and unforgettable tours!
Other tour guides
Aroha Tours endeavour to select guides who will endorse our commitment to excellence. These people are special. They will inform, teach and share knowledge in a manner that is respectful and friendly.
Aroha Waiheke Island Tours are committed to Manaakitanga (hospitality) a concept central to the Māori worldview, meaning to show respect and generosity. It is our role to make sure guests feel warm and welcome.
Aroha Tours begins with a short visit to the shores of Te Huruhi Bay the focal point of the Māori community (Piritahi Marae). We perform a small Māori greeting that connects us with Papatuanuku (earth mother), Ranginui (sky father), and the Mauri (spirit) of the land.
It also allows us to get to know each other before we head off and explore “The Long Sheltered Island”. “Sit back, relax, let us weave 1000 years of history whilst exploring paradise.”
